The Beginning
I grew up in a Christian household, but like many people, I struggled to maintain a consistent Bible study habit. Traditional methods felt overwhelming, time-consuming, and frankly, boring. I found myself constantly starting and stopping, never building the lasting spiritual habits I wanted.
Then I discovered something fascinating about language learning apps like Duolingo - they make learning addictive and fun through gamification. People were spending hours learning languages because it felt like a game, not a chore.
"What if we could apply the same engaging, gamified approach to Bible study? What if learning Scripture could be as fun and addictive as learning a new language?"
That question changed everything. I realized that Bible study faces the same challenges as language learning - it requires consistency, practice, and engagement. But unlike language apps, most Bible study tools were static and uninspiring.
So I quit my job and began building Ascend. We launched the app in 2024, and have been working to make it better ever since.
